Tracing agencies try to match up names with addresses. They are usually employed by lenders in the early stages of a default and work on a no trace - no fee basis to try and get a new address or telephone number or even verify you are still at the same address.

If you move and want to make it difficult for them don't leave a forwarding address with neighbours, don't go on the electoral roll, go ex-directory. However if you have an unusual name they may undertake a "fishing expedition" through searching credit reference agencies records to see if you have opened a new account, sometimes making 2+2=5

They are also able in many instances able to get your address (perhaps by slightly devious means) from other banks and utility companies.
