What are credit repair agencies?

What are credit repair agencies? What are they likely to cost? Can I do the work myself?

Credit repair agencies are agencies which claim to improve your credit score - sometimes by dubious means - to attempt to deceive the credit rating system.

In a report published by the office of Fair Trading in May 2000 people were warned that some credit repair agencies were simply brokers or lenders in disguise and their aim was to sell you a loan.

Credit repair agencies are unable to do anything you cannot do for yourself and there are a number of free sites on the web which tell you how to do this.
